Orange-fleshed sweet potato farming thriving in Samburu

March 30, 2022

Orange-fleshed sweet potato farming is thriving in Samburu. Farmers working with ChildFund and Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) are growing five different varieties. Sweet potato is the sixth most important food crop in Kenya and is exceptionally rich in Vitamin A (via β-carotene). It is a critical, climate-resilient staple providing food security and vital daily nutrition.

In 2024, ChildFund Kenya allocated 83% of its total operating expenses to programs supporting vulnerable children, families, and communities.
